SAMANSIC STEM

Abstract  

This report describes a new kind of building block system that works at two scales: as a STEM toy for children and as a real construction material for buildings, shelters, and even Moon bases. The same block shape is used for both. Two U.S. patents protect the key parts: US 12,703,973 B2 covers the corner block (granted August 11, 2026), and US 12,709,890 B2 covers the intersecting block (granted August 18, 2026). Both belong to SAMARAEE & DANIEL INNOVATION SPECIALISTS INCORPORATED, invented by Daniel Anthony Leonard Boot and Muayad S. Dawood Al-Samaraee. They are based on an earlier application filed May 27, 2022.

The standard block locks together without mortar. It has curved lobes that fit into curved sockets, a central groove, and flanges. The corners and edges are rounded (6–12 mm radius) to reduce stress and chipping. The edges are also chamfered (2–4 degrees, usually 3 degrees) to leave about a 2 mm gap for screws, cladding, and heat expansion. Hollow cavities can hold steel rebar, concrete, insulation, wires, sensors, and other materials. This turns a dry-stack wall into a reinforced wall that can resist pulling and sliding forces, allowing multi-story buildings. The block size is 399 mm long, 200 mm high, and 150–399 mm wide.

The most important innovation is the Double Block of Figure 7. It is simply two standard blocks joined along their outer faces. This creates one wider unit that can extend in all three directions—length (X), width (Y), and height (Z)—without interruption. Standard blocks only grow in length and height; width is fixed. The Double Block solves this by building width natively. It also reduces the number of joints, which are weak points, and makes load paths more continuous. It increases the effective width and stiffness, so the wall resists bending, buckling, and shear better. This enables thick walls, double walls, foundations, corridors, chambers, stepped terraces, ziggurat-like platforms, pyramid-like assemblies, and multi-story buildings.

The corner block makes 90-degree corners with a single unit, and the intersecting block allows walls to go in three directions (T-junctions, cross walls). Together with the Double Block, they form a complete system for complex 3D architecture.

For lunar construction, the blocks can be made from lunar regolith (Moon soil) using 3D printing with concentrated sunlight through fiber optics. The system is dry-stack and mortarless, which is important because water and cement are scarce on the Moon. It can handle extreme temperatures (+130°C day, −180°C night) because of the 2 mm gaps. It is also claimed to resist micrometeorites and moonquakes. The lunar project includes three pyramids: Origin Pyramid for oxygen (100–500 tons/year), Containment Pyramid for a magnetic field (0.5–2 Tesla) to hold atmosphere, and Purification Pyramid for air cleaning (95–99% pollutants). The project budget is $55–95 billion, with a 10-year main deployment and 10–20 years of expansion.

For STEM education, the same blocks scaled down and made of plastic teach real engineering. Children learn about 3D structures, corners, junctions, load paths, and reinforcement. They can build models of ancient wonders like the Great Pyramid, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Stonehenge, and many others. This moves learners from just admiring ancient wonders to actively rebuilding and understanding them. The pledge says construction play helps hand-eye coordination, motor skills, math, spatial reasoning, problem-solving, creativity, and social skills.

The rights are split: Daniel A. L. Boot keeps exclusive rights to low-cost housing construction. Muayad S. Dawood Al-Samaraee holds exclusive rights to construction toys, STEM products, UNESCO heritage work, survival shelters, the HGPHMS, interlocking blocks, and hybrid masonry. Both give 10% of their net personal profit from these products to their joint company, Samaraee & Daniel Innovation Specialists Incorporated (corporation number 1266413-5, incorporated January 19, 2021).

However, not everything is proven. The original interlocking block system was tested on a shake table in June 2018 at Sismolab, Universidad Mariano Gálvez de Guatemala. It survived all ten test sequences but cracked at sharp corners. The new design uses rounded corners to fix that, and it is projected to double earthquake resistance and increase lateral strength two to three times. But the new system has not yet been publicly shake-table tested. Many performance claims—like cost reduction, earthquake resistance, ballistic protection, radiation shielding, EMP shielding (60–80 dB), oxygen output, magnetic field strength, and purification efficiency—are project targets or projections, not independently validated results. They need testing, certification, and code compliance. Children’s products need safety testing. Structural designs need licensed engineering review. 3D printing tolerances, shrinkage, and layer adhesion affect fit.

In short, the Double Block is the key to making this a true 3D building system. It is patent-protected, works with hollow cavities for reinforcement and utilities, and scales from toys to real buildings and Moon bases. The strongest factual statement is that it is a unique dual-scale interlocking platform with many promising applications.
